Kate Matthews
PRACTICE DIRECTOR & REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST
Meet Kate
With a diverse background across child protection, remote Kimberley education settings, and corrective services, I bring a grounded and experience-rich perspective to my work as a psychologist. I began my career advocating for vulnerable young people in child protection, which sparked my commitment to early intervention and trauma-informed practice. My later work in schools and corrective services further deepened my understanding of complex trauma, neurodiversity, addiction, and the lifelong impact of early relational experiences.
I support children, adolescents, and adults with a broad range of presentations, including anxiety, depression, adjustment challenges, relationship and attachment difficulties, grief and loss, neurodivergent identity exploration, childhood trauma, and emotional regulation difficulties. My approach is neuro-affirming, compassionate, and client-centered, with a strong focus on helping individuals build self-understanding, increase self-compassion, and develop healthier patterns in their internal and interpersonal worlds.
I have a deep passion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing and feel privileged to support community through my work with Galambila and the Freedom School. Across all settings, my goal is to meet people where they are, honor their story, and help them move toward greater stability, connection, and wellbeing.
